Supplying NZ Supermarkets: Grocery Supplier Logistics and DC Deliveries

Supermarket distribution centres expect every delivery on time, in full, correctly labelled and with the right dates. Here’s how RPC Logistics helps food, grocery and FMCG brands get it right.

Getting Your Products onto Supermarket Shelves

Winning a supermarket listing is a big milestone. Keeping it depends on getting every order into the distribution centre on time, in full, correctly labelled and with plenty of shelf life left.

Supermarket DCs receive thousands of pallets a day, so they run strict rules for bookings, pallets, labels and paperwork. Deliveries that don’t meet them can be turned away, costing you time, money and goodwill with the buyer.

RPC delivers into major New Zealand distribution centres, including Woolworths and Foodstuffs, as well as The Warehouse, Farmers and Costco. Our team knows what each DC expects at the receiving dock, and how to keep your products flowing onto the shelf.

Order Accuracy

Checked Before It Leaves

Supermarkets measure suppliers on complete, on-time deliveries. Our team picks every order against the purchase order, checks batches, dates and quantities, and makes sure every pallet is secured before the truck leaves, so your orders arrive in full and your buyer stays happy.

Getting DC-Ready

Before your first supermarket order ships, make sure you have the basics in place:

  • GS1 barcodes: products and outer cartons need valid GS1 barcodes, and pallets need SSCC labels.
  • Pallet requirements: each retailer sets rules for pallet type, height, weight, stacking and wrapping.
  • Delivery bookings: DCs work to booked delivery windows, and late or unbooked loads may be refused.
  • Shelf life: retailers usually expect a minimum shelf life remaining when stock arrives, so expiry dates need careful management.
  • Paperwork: delivery documents need to match the purchase order and what’s on the pallet.
  • Promotions: plan stock for promotions and seasonal peaks so orders can be filled in full.

If products arrive without the right labels or packaging, our value-added services team can re-label, re-pack and kit them before they go out.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can’t see your question? Call 09 63 444 63 or send us your details.

Do you deliver to supermarket distribution centres?

Yes. RPC delivers into major New Zealand distribution centres, including Woolworths and Foodstuffs, as well as The Warehouse, Farmers and Costco, on behalf of food, grocery and FMCG brands.

What is an SSCC label and do supermarkets need them?

An SSCC (Serial Shipping Container Code) is an 18-digit GS1 number printed as a barcode label on each pallet or carton. Supermarket distribution centres scan it to receive your delivery against the purchase order, so SSCC labels are usually required. Check your supplier agreement for the exact requirements.

Can you store food products?

Yes. Our Auckland site is HACCP and RMP certified and runs an ISO 9001 quality system, with batch and expiry tracking, pest control and 24/7 camera surveillance.

Can you manage expiry dates and shelf life?

Yes. We record batch and expiry dates for every product, so orders go out with the right dates, and we can trace and recall stock quickly if needed.

Can you build pallets to distribution centre requirements?

Yes. We build, wrap and label pallets to each retailer’s requirements, so your deliveries are accepted first time.

Can you re-label or re-pack products for supermarkets?

Yes. Our value-added services include re-labelling, re-packing, kitting and promotional packs, so your products meet retailer requirements before they are sent.
